Modern art refers to the styles and ideas of the art created during the time period generally spanning from the 1860s to the 1970s. It comprises works of art created during that time period. Expansive invention, artist value, and symbolism are some traits of modern art. The rejection of academic tradition in subject matter and style by some artists and critics in the middle of the 19th century is often cited as the birthplace of modern art.

The artists were greatly influenced by the works from Africa, Asia, South America, and Oceania that were showcased in 1900s Paris. Modern art inspired today by it allowing individuals to show personal expression through painting, sculpture, and performance art. Anyone can express themselves in a way that will be safely observable for others.
